"Great Steak in a Sports Bar, You Betcha!" |
I live in Chicago, was a Steakhouse House Chef paying for my College Education, I know a great steak when I find one. And at the Galaxy Sports Bar I surely found one of the best. I just had a bone in ribeye that was out of this world! This steak rivals anything I have ever had at Mortons, Ruth Chris or any where else. And who would have thought it would be in a sports bar. The meat was a perfect cut bone in, prepared perfectly. The scallops also were perfect and the scalloped potatoes.....OMG! Executive Chef Angus O'Hare knows his stuff that is for sure. He delivered the sizziling skillet platter then table side poured a shot of bourbon on the plate that created an aroma one likely smells when entering heaven. Later in the meal he persoanlly came out to make sure I was satisfied and oh boy was I! The steak was prepared a perfect rare the temperature could not have been more perfect. The meat was flavorful and melted in your muth just as the plump scallops did. And those scalloped potatoes with bacon bits WOW! My husband surprised me on our anniversary with reservations to this wonderful restaurant. We had a starry night theme on our wedding, so Galaxy restaurant seemed a perfect place to eat for our anniversary.
If you drive up to it it doesn't look like anything special, but the interior design is nice and the food is amazing. We may have eaten what is seriously the best meal we have ever eaten in our lives.
We ate in the main dining room and ordered the fruit and cheese plate appetizer to start which was truly excellent. It set the tone and has truly ruined me for any fruit and cheese plate at any establishment in the future.
Then I got the Sherry Lobster Bisque which was excellent and my husband ordered the seasonal salad selection which was also excellent.
For our main dishes, my husband ordered the sirloin which was delicious and I ordered the Shrimp Diablo which was excellent, spicy, tender jumbo shrimp and linguine.
For dessert my husband ordered the creme brulee and I ordered the mixed berry gelato. Both excellent.
It is a nice restaurant, so an evening out with all the trimmings will run you a reasonable amount of money, but we have spent far more on meals nowhere near as excellent as the one we enjoyed last night. We will definitely be back!

This is a wonderfull place for anytime but especially for a special occassion. The food was exceptional as well as the service. We dined in the Wine Room and the atmosphere is warm and intimate. Additionally, during the weekend of the event, we couldn't have asked for anything more as the entire staff was accomodating of our every request, need, and our 250 friend and family. After our reception, everyone expressed their utmost pleasure in everything from the food, to the staff, to the facility itself.
We have never interfaced with a business or personnel that put such an exquisite focus and execution on customer service as well as all of you at the Galaxy. Our only complaint would be that on the evaluation report that you sent us, "Excellent" was the highest rating we could give. A small group of family and friends gathered in the breakfast area late that night and the hotel staff was fabulously accommodating and gracious. Just wanted to thank you for arranging the birthday party. She was so surprised. The cellar room is beautiful and so cozy with the fireplace. My husband is in construction and the first thing he noticed in the room was the ceilings, loved them. The food was delicious. I had the scrod and chicken marsala. Dear David,
I recently received the thank you note and evaluation report from our May 31St wedding reception; however, there was not enough room for me to adequately tell you and the rest of the staff at The Galaxy how wonderful they were to work with and how excellent our experience was. We had my sister's wedding at The Galaxy three years ago and didn't hesitate for a second when deciding to have ours there as well. As it was for her wedding reception, the food was incredible and everything, down to the finest detail, was done exactly as we had asked. It was such a wonderful feeling with all the stress that wedding planning brings to have complete confidence that the food and service at our reception were going to be exquisite. Thank you David, Susi, and the rest of The Galaxy staff who helped coordinate our event and make it the success that we knew it would be. I would recommend The Galaxy without reservation to anyone planning a banquet, even a bride with the highest standards like myself who wanted it all - a beautiful atmosphere, delicious food and a wonderful staff who helped with every detail. We recently had the Galaxy Restaurant host our daughters wedding reception. My wife and I took the time after the wedding to do a serious critique of each and every aspect of the wedding day, with particular emphasis on the reception itself.
I am pleased to inform you that we were unable to find any area of consequence where the Galaxy or its staff could have made our evening better. The food, the service, the personnel and the management were all excellent.
I was most pleased that at least 20 people approached me with comments on the excellence of the food, the smooth and timely service of the food, and the friendly nature of all the personnel at the Galaxy. I personally appreciated the personal service from yourself and your assistant. I was kept informed yet not overwhelmed with details of the evening, a perfect balance.
Your quality service included setting seating cards, table numbers, center pieces, an ice sculpture and more the day of the wedding, all perfectly.
My wife and I as well as the bride and groom give you our highest recommendation.
Please feel free to use us as a reference, it is our opinion that the most discerning clients will be overwhelmingly pleased as we are.

Thank you so much for all of the work you and your staff did to make my daughter’s wedding reception absolutely wonderful! Your suggestions and ideas to our initial plans showed that you do listen to your clients’ desires. It was sort of like “your wish is our demand”. We had so many compliments on how nice and elegant everything was. Many compliments on the chocolate fountain, although Colleen and I didn’t even get to have any, we heard it was exquisite tasting chocolate. We’ll have to sample it another time. I just wanted to let you know how wonderful everything was and that you made us feel like we were the only ones there. We really felt that we had special treatment. That’s wonderful to feel like that once in a while. But now life brings us back to reality. Colleen is our only daughter and our son has been married for 5 ½ years, so no more parties like that for us. We do promise to tell everyone and anyone about the Galaxy (which we’ve already done.)
